COMMENT ON ROMANS 6:5
"For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection”
This "likeness", speaks to similes/figures.
That is, the verse tells us that, just as we have not actually died physically in order to be in the likeness of His death, so too we will not be raised physically in order to be in the likeness of His resurrection.
So this "likeness" tells us that Jesus' death in His physical body, together with His resurrection in that very same body, was a figure for the spiritual death in which we were held, and spiritual resurrection which we would experience through faith in Him.
So when the physical is rolled up as per 2 Peter 3:8-10, our spirits which are the real us and which shall continue on, shall in and by virtue of that same event be clothed in unlimited fashion with the righteousness and revelation of Christ Jesus.
For we shall see Him as He is, and when one sees Christ as He is, one necessarily becomes like Him. (See 1 John 3:2, 2 Cor 3:18.)
And so our ‘form’ shall not be quantitative, but qualitative.
Amen.
