SOTERIOLOGICAL CONSOLIDATION
“Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire” 1 Cor 3:13-15.
: “If any man's work abide” This speaks to the operations of the New Man.
: “If any man's work shall be burned” This speaks to the operations of the old man.
: “he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire” This speaks to the fact that the (abovementioned) work that abides is necessarily that which remains when once the Holy Ghost has purged away the operations of the old man.
Our reward and our salvation are (therefore) one and the same thing: we are saved to the extent to which we are rewarded, and rewarded to the extent to which we are saved. For whether on earth or in heaven, there can be no reward worth having, other than being joined to Jesus Christ.
Amen.
